Loft Conversions

On average loft conversions from start to completion usually takes between eight to ten weeks. The construction of a new room within the existing loft space is relatively straightforward and the key stages when constructing a loft can be split into three phases.    

1. Preparation and steel work - scaffolding is erected and the steel beams installed to ensure that the building is secure. Then converting the loft into a habitable space can commence. The new floor structure is then installed.  

2. Roof and frame construction - creation of the box structure known as a `dormer`. Once the frame is being constructed, then the sides and roof of the dormer and surroundings are made weatherproof. Once completed and secured, insulation and waterproofing the loft area follows.   

3. Internal works - once the exterior structure is made weather proofed, the internal work can begin with installing the internal walls, arranging drainage, electrical and plumbing points. Then breaking through to the existing house follows to arrange the stairs. The process takes about two days and can be a bit dusty. Finally, skimming of the walls and the carpentry is being completed. Then painting of the walls, ceilings and woodwork commence.
